Mindfulness is so much more than your thoughts. It’s also about how you want to feel at any given moment.
This morning my meditation focused on 3 feeling words that I wanted to guide my day. As I thought about those feelings words, I focused on where I felt those words in my body.
One of the words that came to mind was grounded. When I thought about feeling grounded I could feel a sensation in my chest around my heart. During this guided meditation, the instructor encouraged listeners to remember this feeling whenever I they needed to come back to it throughout the day.
I was in the coffee shop this morning when I was reminded of my intention to remain grounded today. I thought about the sensation I felt around my heart and recreated that feeling. This was whilst eating a chocolate doughnut trying to avoid turning to my phone to distract me. My state easily shifted from insecurity to confidence.
So after reading this, I encourage you to explore identifying a feeling word for yourself. Don’t overthink it. Just close your eyes, and think of a feeling word that resonates. Once you have it, keep your eyes closed and pay attention to where you feel this word in your body. I find that I usually feel my feeling words in my chest, or my head. Again, don’t overthink this. Just listen to your body.
Once you feel the feeling, let it sink in. Remember it. As you go about your day try to remember your feeling word and where it manifests in your body. This is especially helpful if like me, you feel a since of pain or insecurity out of nowhere. When this happens, focus on your feeling word to get you through the moment.
