Pick Yourself Up

I slept like shit last night. I can’t help but think about what might have caused it. Was it the two fried chicken biscuits I ate yesterday? Or was it the amount of screen time I had so close to bedtime? I’m not sure.

What I do know is that not having enough sleep led to some serious brain fog for me today. I didn’t want to talk to people, and I had a tough time focusing. When I got home, I only wanted to watch TV, and lay on the couch. And that’s exactly what I did, for a time. Fortunately I also did laundry while wasting away on the couch. This kept me from becoming a complete slob. And it was just enough interruption to keep my brain from jumping completely off the rails.

It was during moments of shifting from being completely checked out to present that I found the discipline to get up. I reminded myself that I get to choose how I want my life to be. I reminded myself that how I chose to live when I felt at my worst would improve my tomorrow.

I got off the couch, and I made dinner. I proceeded to meal prepping for the remainder of the week. I put away my laundry. I started taking action, and eventually found my way to the computer to begin writing. I picked myself up. So can you.
