An attitude of gratitude can do wonders for your life. I’ve been listening to Jay Shetty’s Think Like Monk, and recently came to the chapter about gratitude. In the chapter, he talked about how gratitude is not just about being thankful for the things and the people in your life, but also remembering that everything in our life is a gift. Including this moment.

Nothing in life is promised to any of us. Since I’ve been working from home in quarantine I find myself getting frustrated at times with work. We’re busier than we’ve ever been. We’re implementing our new strategic plan and hiring a lot of people. This is a lot to be grateful for. However, lately, I’ve been increasingly frustrated by the workload of recruiting for these positions and find myself having mini temper tantrums with myself.

Shetty’s words about gratitude helped me to put things in perspective. It helped me to shift my mindset to having an attitude of gratitude and realize the level of experience I’m gaining at this moment, and how I get to be in service to others. It’s hard to be sad and grateful at the same time.

When I started focusing on gratitude I felt myself have more compassion for others and myself. When things happened that I would normally find annoying I was able to pause and reflect on the situation from a place of empathy.

Having more gratitude helped me and I believe it can help you as well. If you don’t have a gratitude practice make it a habit of beginning and ending each day by writing down 3–5 things you are grateful for. It will help you to begin to shift your mindset into thinking about the ways things are actually happening in your favor.
