I run a tight ship. I stick to my routine most days, and I’m pretty diligent about making the most of my time. At least from the time, I wake up and until I finish work. I have to be because I’m usually taking classes half the time while working full-time. My life is pretty busy and takes a lot of discipline to get everything done.
Recently though I came across a planner I was exploring, and, in the planner, there was a note to write down one thing fun you’re looking forward to that day. The reason was that if you’re not planning fun things into your day, you stand the risk of burning out.
Regularly planning fun things to do doesn’t come easy to me these days. COVID has made it challenging to do things like go to the gym or catch up with friends. Fortunately, warmer days are ahead so hopefully, there will be more opportunities to be around other people.
At any rate, I am committed to making time to do the things that bring me joy, like playing chess online and writing creatively.
I think one of the biggest changes I can make is limiting my TV time in the evening. I probably average about 1.5 hours of television watching every night. I don’t even find it to be that fun. I mean sure, occasionally I get into a show or a movie that I’m enjoying, but most of the time I can totally do without it.
I guess when it comes down to it, I need to get creative and remember to regularly have fun. As I write these words, I am days away from my first vacation since December. That should bring lots of time for fun.
What are you looking forward to?
